In Himeji Castle, a new exhibition and explanation system has started, effectively using AR (Augmented Reality) and CG (computer Graphics).

The dedicated free application software needs to be downloaded onto a smaetphone or a tablet through the App Store or Google Play.

Detailed infomation with videos and photo will appear when the smartphone or the tablet is trained at AR markers.

5 minutes by bus or 20 minutes walk from Himeji Station.

 

As for parking areas, please see the related information as follows.

  • Children under elementary school age admitted free of charge.
  • Childen's admission free is applied to junior high school students at the age of 18.
  • 1 escorting teacher per 15 elementary, junior high school or senior high school students on a school excursion is admitted fee of charge.
  • Physically challenged people are admitted free of charge by showing their physical disabillity handbooks.One caregiver per one person is also admitted free of charge. (3 caregivers per 1 wheelchair user are admitted free of charge.) 
  • Himeji Castle was build on a 46-meter high hill in the beginning of the Edo period (1603-1868). There are many inclines and stairs, and especially the stairs in the keeps and the watch towers are very steep and narrow, though the stairs are equipped with handrails.To preserve the authentic state of the castle, Himeji Castle dose not have any elevators. Therefore, regettably we are unable to accommodate visitors in wheelchairs in the buildings. Safety regulations require 2 or 3 skilled caregivers to assist visitors in wheelchairs  within the admission-charged areas, and only the outside of the castle is accessible to wheel chair visitors.

Take Shinki Bus from the north exit of Himeji Station to the bus stop,Ote-mae, and walk to the gate of Himeji Castle for about 5 minutes.

Or walk from JR or Sanyo Himeji Station for about 20 minutes.

  1. Volunteer Guide Association of Himeji
    This association was established in 1984 (Showa 59th yr) to guide foreign visitors in Himeji Castle as voluteers. No reservations are accepted. When guide are available, the sign is displayed at the ticket gate.

Silver Sightseeing Guides take visitors on tours of Himeji Castle and introduce its history and mysteries. Applications are accepted at the reception of the Sightseeing Guide Station in the Himeji Castle Management Office. Guide free is \2,000 per guide.

Souvenir Shop

The souvenir shop is next to ticket vending machines of Himeji Castle, in the free access area.

Various souvenirs are available for sale: traditional crafts such as Myochin-hibashi-furin (chopstick shaped wind chimes made of iron), Himeji-hariko (paper-mache dolls), Hime-yama-ningyo (Himeyama dolls made of carved wood), Himeji-koma (Himeji spinning tops), leatherwork,and Shosha-nuri (vivid red lacquer wares in the Shosha style). Japanese sweets and Senbei (rice crackers) are also on sale.
